ABOUT AZERBAIJAN BAKU

Azerbaijan is a country with a surface area of ??approximately 87,000 sqm and it has a rich cultural heritage. Among the countries where Muslims are the majority, it is the first country to host performing arts such as opera and theater. There is no official religion in its Constitution. The country is a secular nationalism as political power; but the majority of people have faith in Shiism. Compared with other Eastern European and Commonwealth countries, Azerbaijan is at a high level of social and economic development and literacy.

General Descriptions

Azerbaijan as a country that accepts each other brother city with Turkey and its capital is Baku. The official language in Azerbaijan is Azerbaijani, i.e. Azerbaijani Turkish. The language is similarly to Turkish even if you do not have difficulty in understanding it has some main differences. As the currency unit, the Azerbaijan Manat is used. According to the data of 2016, the population of Azerbaijan is 9,762 million. Nearly 54% of Azerbaijan's population lives in cities, and nearly 46% live in villages. The rate of urbanization has been rather slow in recent times, cities getting immigration but not too fast, but there is a balance because population growth is higher in rural areas.

Visa

For our participants traveling by air, they can get a one month visa at Baku Haydar Aliyev airport. Passport and visa costs for Turkish people are 10 USD for Red Passport and free for Green Passport in Azerbaijan airport. There is no visa application in Azerbaijan's land border gates. Therefore, our participants who will go to Azerbaijan by land must get their visas from Azerbaijan's foreign representative offices in Turkey.

Location

located in the South Caucasus, is boarded by the Russia in the north, by Georgia in north-west, by Armenia and Turkey (Nakhcevan boarder) in south-west and by Iran in south. The Caspian Sea is also located on the eastern border.

Climate / Weather

The number of sunny days is quite high in Azerbaijan, which is experiencing quite different climates due to the influence of its geography and location. For this reason, it deserves the name of "Sunny Azerbaijan". When you go in the summer months, sunny days are waiting for you. In the middle and east of the country, there is an abundant climate. Southeastern regions are more rainy.

Agriculture and Husbandry

The agricultural sector in Azerbaijan is similar to the general structure existing in the USSR. Agriculture is made through the so-called "kolkhoz" and "sovkhoz", and all landownership is state-owned. The sub-institutional structure of the agricultural sector is being organized in Azerbaijan, nowadays. Despite this, it is still unclear which property is intended to be created. In order to solve this problem, the land in the possession of the state is divided into 3 parts as the state, municipality, private property with adopt a resolution named "Mecelle About Soil Reform" and it is claimed that 40% of the country's territory and 85% of the cultivated areas will be allocated private property.
